Femme-heavy local band Southern Femisphere will release a brand-spanking-new five-song EP entitled Unfurls Her Pluck on Mon. July 16 at a show at the Tin Roof. The show openers include two Baltimore-based acts: producer Chester Endersby Gwazda (a member of the Dan Deacon Ensemble) and experimental project Bamboo, composed of visual artists Elena Johnston and Jordan Bernier. Initially formed as a Weezer cover band last Halloween, Southern Femisphere (or So-Fem, as their fans like to call them) have performed 10 shows in Charleston since their birth. Self-defined as “post-chillwave,” the four-piece is comprised of Caroline de Golian on guitar, Emily Connor on bass, and Kim Larson and Brett Nash alternating guitar and drums, with all four members on vocals. Their style brings back memories of Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill, but with beachier vibes and just a splash of male vocals. Copies of Unfurls Her Pluck will be available for sale at the show. The band plans to notify fans where to purchase the disc through Facebook.
