Southern Culture on the Skids

When: Fri., Oct. 16 2009
Price: $12
The long-standing Chapel Hill band returns without a new album, but with plenty cause for reminding Charleston music fans of just what makes Southern Culture on the Skids so special. The band’s fried chicken-flinging antics and oddball humor are a draw, to be sure, but the band wouldn’t have lasted almost 25 years if it was just about lowbrow lyrics and fried food. SCOTS isn’t a band with a gimmick, but one with a fully realized aesthetic. It’s that musical brew — led by ace guitarist Rick Miller — that’s kept Southern Culture on the Skids relevant for so long. They hit the Home Team stage (at 1205 Ashley River Road) at 10 p.m.
