Social Wine Bar manages the balance of a high-end see-and-be-seen hotspot and a familiar everyday bar. The accessible offerings and creative pairings of advanced sommelier Brad Ball, the restaurant’s proprietor, attract a varied, but discerning clientele to the East Bay St. haunt, which has earned itself a slew of Best of Charleston nods in recent years. If you ask us, Social’s happy hour is one of the best in town, with a rotating wine and food list daily, like jasmine rice balls and crisp shrimp spring rolls, each available for just $4 each. If you stick around for a few more, you’ll find Social’s dinner menu full of seasonal specialties ranging from swordfish a la plancha to confit pork cheeks, each coupled with a wine recommendation. Or choose from an array of wood-fired thin crust pizzas. Once the new kid on the block on East Bay, Social has carved out a local niche all its own amid the tourist traffic. —Sam Spence Dish (Winter 2015)
