Re: “Because of these jerks, booze is banned on Folly Beach

I'm a 20 something who enjoyed going to folly to enjoy "beach wine" (wine with ice cubes) with my friends. I didn't use my daddy's credit card to buy the gas, chairs, towels, or wine. I'm local enough to know not to go to Folly the entire week of the 4th unless you want to sit in traffic for 2 hours just to finally get to the beach and have no where to post. There has already been talk of moving all the drinking and partying to the Edisto River. "We can drink there" well with the current you can also die there. We're just transferring one problem to another area. I'm sure the people who live on Folly have every right to be angry. When we're angry we make rash decisions though. People offering a moderate decision shouldn't be discouraged. Is there a reason we cannot amp up police officers on holidays? Monitor certain blocks for overcrowding? My parents keep talking to me about the riot. Trying to I guess understand my generation. There really is nothing to understand. We're 20-somethings. We have little say in anything and are rarely taken seriously for reasons like this. We graduated college with over 30k in student loan debt and cannot find a job that doesn't consist of serving food and drinks. Our parents have lost their jobs due to the economy. We all rent because we don't have the credit or the job to buy. We're frustrated. We like to drink. And some of us feel like we are owed something. Just like some members of your generation feel like they're owed something, and the some people in the generation that separates us. You've worked hard to live where you live on Folly haven't you? Shouldn't that be respected? Shouldn't that be guarded? Shouldn't you have a say on what happens in a public area that is only a few feet away from your home? "According to multiple sources, apologetic members of the crowd pitched in to clean up" We're not all animals or sweet little angels but neither are you. Booing a person for speaking up at a meeting who cares about the well being of all parties involved is no better than if I were to stand there on Folly on the 4th and chant USA! You're putting others down including my generation. lay off.
