Coming up for air

Head to the George Gallery for the opening reception of local artist Brian Coleman’s newest exhibition, Sitting Underwater. Coleman’s new collection of abstract expressionist paintings was inspired by the recent birth of his first child, Maverick. “Building memory with Maverick carries over to building on canvas,” says Coleman. Watching his son grow has had Coleman contemplating the process of building memories or being, “in between knowing and not knowing,” as he puts it. Fans of Picasso, Matisse, Miro, and Pollock will feel at home, according to George Gallery curator Anne Siegfried, who compares Coleman’s work to those famous artists.
