Gone shrimpin'

If you consider yourself a true connoisseur of Southern cuisine, head to Joe Riley Stadium on Sat. Sept. 19 to eat and judge shrimp and grits entries from 20 chefs at the Second Annual Shrimp & Grits Competition. The returning champ, Chef Aaron Lemieux of Michael’s on the Alley, will join chefs from local spots like Halls Chophouse, Tavern & Table, Graze, and more. Halls Chophouse chef Adam Jakins says he’ll be working with Slightly North of Broad chef Russ Moore on a new take on the traditional shrimp and grits including smoked tamale grits. The price of admission includes all-you-can-eat tastes of shrimp and grits and a cash bar that will sell beer, wine, and liquor. Guests vote on their favorite recipe for the People’s Choice Award and three chef judges vote for the Critics’ Choice Best Tasting Award and Critic’s Choice Most Original Award. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Charleston Animal Society.
