We both live in and operate vacation rentals on a third party basis. In the round, I'm in favor of what Denise is trying to do and the City re-examining a very old ordinance that is effectively criminalizing a section of the population to the point of un-enforcability.

What we need to consider is also the neighborhoods and not eviscerating homeownership with a rental play. That means a quoter of some sort. We have a livability court to sort poor behavior that can also pull a license. We could have an ordinance that limits price inflation by pulling a license when a home is sold. We can monitor standards the same way. We currently have an ordinance that is of no help to areas experiencing rapid Gentrification where the current residents are barred from this income source.

Reading the replies above, it's obviously an emotive subject but let us open a debate and gather the consensus either way. We are Charlestonians and behave better than that we see in the average presidential debate these days.
