Re: “The Difference Between South Carolina and Georgia —Henry McMaster!

If the government can force everyone to pay into a retirement system, social security, why aren't people up in arms about that, and never have been?! Only those who don't work don't have to pay into it. How is making everyone buy health insurance different? Only those with money will have to buy it.

Re: “Whitewashing History — Don't Let Neo-Confederates Make a Lie of the Past

Regardless, are we now going to fight about who's history is correct? Can't we just agree that the Civil War, for whatever reasons, is a very sad and dark part of our history? Brother against brother in some cases, and the loss of life was 620,000+, exceeding the nation's loss of life in all its other wars from the Revolution through Vietnam! The Civil War is definitely something to never forget, not unlike never forgetting The Holocaust. They are tragic parts of history with many lessons to be learned and should continue to be acknowledged with great solemnity, not celebration.
I just can't imagine that the South would take too kindly to a Yankee/Union Appreciation month; it would be derisive. The one in VA is promoting disaffiliation, both are totally uncalled for and promote animosity, just listen to the comments/arguing here and in the media. Very sad. (No, I am not comparing the Civil War to the Holocaust, I am only saying they are both tragic events in history not to be celebrated. Should Germany have a Nazi Appreciation month for what some see as their valiant effort to take over the world?)

Re: “CofC alums find new media niche

This is a really fun concept! I like how Fuel shows the preparation of new menu items, but there is so much more than that. Part of it is kind of like a People magazine with all kinds of news and stories about just about everything delivered in quick random screen bites including local twitter tweets in real time. It's hard to explain everything it does, but it's mesmerizing and everyone gets glued to it. It will be interesting to see the new developments and applications these guys come up with down the road.
