Save the Milkshakes Festival & Food Truck Rodeo

When: Sat., Sept. 7, 10 a.m. 2013
Phone: (843) 696-7127
Although Breast Cancer Awareness month isn’t until October, the nonprofit organization Save the Milkshakes will be hosting a fundraiser for breastfeeding mothers fighting cancer. After a friend was diagnosed with cancer soon after the birth of her child, Nicole Rubritz started thinking about who helps pregnant moms diagnosed with cancer. “So we started thinking about what we could do to help those moms and the babies that are delivered early so that the moms can start treatments,” says Rubritz. The organization is currently creating a milk depot in the NICU department at St. Francis Hospital here in Charleston, as well as raising money for breast cancer awareness and supporting moms receiving treatment. A food truck rodeo will also take place so festival goers can munch on some yums from Dulce, Cast Iron, Refuelers, Auto Banh, King of Pops, and Roadside Seafood. The festival will include live music by Jefferson Coker, a dance show from the Ashley Ridge dance team, a magic show, face painting, jump castles, games and prizes, and a variety of vendors including Pampered Chef will round out the good and tasty cause. This event is free and all funds raised will go to opening and running of a local milk depot, which will also take milk donations.
