Sand Sculpting Competition

When: Sat., June 5, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 2010
Price: Free

Piccolo Spoleto’s Sand Sculpting Competition is the perfect way to show appreciation for art and the environment. See what creative minds and talented hands can do with the shaping and sculpting of sand.

Castles made of sand
You'll find all kinds of creative structures at the Sand Sculpting Competition. Last year a family built a putting green and proceeded to play golf after dyeing the sand green with food coloring. It really all depends on the individual, so those who wish to participate have the creative license to build whatever they want.

You could win a prize
Entry into the competition is based on age. There's the Adult's Event for those 18 years old and up, the Family Event, which means at least one adult and one child together, and the Children's Event. There will be an awards ceremony for the Children's Event at 11 a.m. and one for the Adult's Event and Family Event at 12:45 p.m. It is completely free to enter and prizes range from gift cards to a beach bike to skim boards. You could even go down in history by winning best in show.

There isn't anything better than spending a Saturday on the beach during the summer, and the sand sculptures are definitely an added bonus. So why not relax on the beach and let the art spring up around you. Also, it's a great way to escape from downtown's Spoleto madness.
