"I don't like being reminded that some people are poor!" I'm not sure what makes you think that the world exists to make you, personally, happy, but surely you're not so stupid as to not realize that free speech only works if it's free for everyone. For instance, I don't like to be reminded that snobs like you exist, but I would never wish that your column were illegal. In fact, even if you wanted to stand on a street corner and espouse this idiotic view, that is your right as an American, and it would be my right to laugh at you, just as it's your right to stick your nose in the air when a street person approaches you and say, "Move along, you filthy poor person!" Charleston is a beautiful, complex city. A panhandler here and there won't change that.
