Sam Adams Oktoberfest

When: Fri., Sept. 19, 7:30-11 p.m. 2014
Price: $15
Say “see-ya” to your beach body in the most delicious way possible: with bratwursts and beer. The annual homage to German heritage is back, and this year it’s sponsored by Sam Adams. With six different beers and authentic German-style food from local restaurants, it’s best to come with a hearty appetite. Tickets include a free souvenir tasting mug and allow you to sign up for any of the German-themed games. Demonstrate your strength by participating in the keg bowling or the stein hoisting competition. The stein hoisting winners will actually be part of a national Sam Adams-sponsored competition. “There will be four winners Friday night, and all four will go to compete in the Charleston final on Oct. 4 at the Bay Street Biergarten to win a prize of $500,” says Alyssa Maute, event coordinator. If those challenges prove to be a little too difficult for you after spending time at the beer tasting tents, you can relax on the mustache see-saw or string a pretzel necklace. The Hans Schmidt Band will serenade revellers with German polkas and waltzes. Dress to impress, because the winner with the most authentic German costume, as well as the winners of all the other games, will receive gift certificates to one of the sponsoring restaurants. The festivities don’t have to end at 11 p.m.; head to the King Street Public House for the official after-party, and don’t lose your souvenir beer stein. Bring it to the restaurant for $4 Sam Adams pints to keep the Oktoberfest spirit going all the way until October 2015.
