Re: “Goulette plays it safe with a salad and duck fat frites formula

Having recently been to Goulette, I agree about the limitations of the menu. Everything we had was good, but not exciting enough to make us regulars. Those imposing wooden banquettes at Lana served very well at limiting the noise...something I definitely noticed at Goulette. And if us pre-geezers are their market, it could be a problem. On another note: be careful about those AARP comments, girl. Some of us are cooler than you know and actually read your reviews, although now we are on notice that we are not your target demographic.

Re: “A sobering look at Charleston's food changes over 20 years

I loved this article. Please continue to talk about how we pull back from Disney-fication, with new hotels going up at an alarming rate, "best of" awards overwhelming us, the work-force needed to sustain the increased interest unable to afford to live within walking distance, parking being prohibitively expensive for workers, and mass transit non-existent.

Re: “Gentry Bar & Room packs flavor, but lacks focus

The name alone speaks of confused identity. Bar & Room? What kind of room? What does one do in said Room? What does it mean?

Re: “Support your neighborhood cafe, or you may lose it

I definitely agree about how important it is to support your neighborhood businesses. But I also agree with those who say businesses need to identify with the community they are serving. The last time I had dinner at Park Cafe was well over a year ago. We were the only ones there, the dinner was fine, but not stellar, and we paid as much as dinner at FIG or HUSK would have been. That just doesn't compute. The setting and ambiance are low-end casual dining and that's what the menu should reflect. I think they turned away a lot of us early on, with the high dinner prices, a la carte menu items at lunch (making it hard to spend less than $20 per person unless you just eat avocado toast) and not very good coffee that was a buck more than any other coffee shop around.
I applaud their local focus on parking lot attractions, etc., but the menu seriously needs to reflect the neighborhood. And by the way, not all of us who live nearby are renters paying insane rent and mortgages. Some of us have been here a long time and would love to support an affordable neighborhood cafe.
