Re: “The joy's still there for Three Dog Night

David, Danny WAS, IS AND ALWAYS will be TDN. It was DANNY who formed the band, had the concept for three lead singers who didn't play instruments on stage, and the idea to renovate songs that didn't become hits on the respective singer/songwriters' albums. Cory's contributions included his excellent, one-of-a-kind voice, his idea of having a live band play behind the three lead singers instead of a tape, and his vast common sense.
Concerning Danny's talents. He's an even better singer now than he was in the 70s because during that period of time he was a heavy smoker and used drugs. (By the way he has been clean and sober 13 YEARS LONGER THAN CHUCK), quitting cold turkey in 1979. In addition, I bet you didn't know that Danny's first choice for the third dog was Bruce Johnston who turned him down because he wanted to join the Beach Boys(he also wrote Barry Manilow's hit I Write the Songs).
A reunion will be impossible due to Chuck's negative actions (a lot of them occurred AFTER he became sober), interviews, and posts about the band members (Danny and Cory in particular). As a result, the current band doesn't want to perform with him. Finally, don't be surprised when TDN makes it to the R&RHOF if Chuck receives a letter from the HOF President informing him that he's not allowed to perform in the TDN induction ceremony due to the reasons mentioned above in this post.
