Re: “Charleston can lead the country by getting its story straight

Um, Dylann Roof was from Columbia, not Charleston, so that part does not make much sense. I am happy to speak my history out loud. My ancestors came from Ireland dirt poor. I was the first in my whole family from my grandfather/grandmother and 8 children on down to go to college. No one in my family tree ever owned slaves and probably did not even have any servants. Not sure what change you expect. I can't change someone's heart and I certainly can't go back and change the dark and evil days of slavery. What I can do, and have, is teach my children to love and respect all people. All of my children had friends of different colors and ethnicity. All were welcome in our home...always. That is MY Charleston way.

Re: “Calling bullshit on Charleston's friendliest city designation

We have been called the "friendliest city" not the "perfect city". I don't believe any municipality could earn that award.

Re: “New Vice Principals trailer previews khaki-clad HBO mischief filmed in Charleston area

Walton Goggins' home in the show was filmed across the street from our home and at the home next door. They stored stuff in front of our house and in our driveway. We enjoyed watching the filming. Just the sheer number of people who worked the set was amazing. We got invited to watch on set and they also invited us to enjoy the food station and called whenever an ice cream truck was being brought to the set. It was cool. This IS NOT a show for younger viewers. I heard the F word more in the few scenes they shot by our house than in most of my life. I am sure the show will be great.

Re: “Mt. Pleasant officials face harsh criticism, infighting over Shem Creek’s future

I find it interesting that Linda Page claims a possible conflict of interest with Jim Owens when she had no problem taking campaign contributions from the very developer who came before council requesting a variance. Mark Smith is also very vocal in complaints about this new council when he too took campaign contributions from the developer. I don't live in Mt. P, but if I did, that would be a huge problem with me. I thought people were tired of bought and paid for politicians.

Re: “Charleston City Council votes against height reduction for Sgt. Jasper

All this after the mayor was able to spend millions of dollars to improve Colonial Lake rather than add needed sidewalks with heavy pedestrian traffic in West Ashley some parts of downtown (the monies come from the same bucket). I wonder if I am the only one who sees the Colonial Lake project and the initial plans by the Beach Company development at Sgt. Jasper as connected.
