Re: “West Ashley’s 32-year-old Citadel Mall holds out for better times

Sad, I used to live in Charleston and worked in advertising, we handled the Malls account. It was upscale, clean and rarely any vacant stores. Lots of events and promotions, I have been living in NYC for 26 years now and I dont think I have been to Citadel or Northwoods since I moved NYC kinda spoiled me for Malls in general. Sad to hear the area has declined so much, I am thinking of moving back to Chas, but from what I am finding out the only places to consider living are MtP or the Islands (Cannot have a pool much downtown)
I think what really hurt West Ashley was the loss of the Navy lose that many jobs and esp the officers who would live W Ash things kinda collapse.
I grew up with JM Fields, Pantry Pride and remember when they built the first Mall next to those. Then we got Charlestown Square, Northwoods, The Outlet Mall just past Northwoods towards Goose Creek (Name evades me as it did not last) and then Citadel. Heck I remember going to Pinehaven Center near the Navy Base, it was vibrant, I drove through it last time I was in Chas and it was damn scary.
Well so much for the nostalgia trip!
