White Tuxedo Productions is setting out to bring the bohemian lifestyle of early ’90s New York to Charleston with RENT. The classic Broadway show brings vital issues to the viewers’ attention in a not-so-disheartening musical form through the stories of seven people struggling to pay rent, make love last, live with AIDS, and break free of drugs. The cast not only contains professional actors from New York, but also a few actors who have performed in RENT productions in the past, including Scottie McLaughlin, who plays Tom Collins for the third time. You’ll recognize favorite songs like “Seasons of Love” and “Light My Candle.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event are going to the Roper St. Francis Ryan White Foundation and the Alliance For Full Acceptance. Along with the multiple performances of the musical, there will be a Bohemian Ball held at Pantheon opening night, Thurs. Jan. 21, after the performance. Tickets are $125 and include preferred seating at the show as well as entrance to the ball itself. Guests have the option of being transported from the Charleston Music Hall to the ball via bicycle taxis. —Caitlyn Chimento
