Catch exclusive pre-screenings of Art:21

Beat the PBS crowd to the punch

If you’re into contemporary art and want to expand your knowledge about it, head to Redux every Sunday in October to catch the pre-screening of season five of Art:21— Art in the Twenty-first Century, a TV show that focuses on artistic process — how art begins as an idea and becomes reality.

During this promotional period, referred to as Access ’09, viewers can watch all four episodes at Redux before they premiere on PBS.

Here’s the lineup and the dates you can catch each of the episodes:

  • “Compassion” on Oct. 4, features South African artist William Kentridge, who creates poetic and political films and stage productions. Kentridge was featured in Time magazine as one of 2009’s most influential people.
  • “Fantasy” on Oct. 11 will focus on the artists’ personal experiences and how they use them to create virtual, abstract, and dreamlike works of art.
  • “Transformation” on Oct. 18 will feature artists who take their observation and interpretation of everything from historical novels to tabloid magazines and put it into mediums like video, photography sculpture, and more.
  • “Systems” on Oct. 25 features artists who create projects through acts of appropriation or accumulation.

All shows start at 7:30 p.m. Check out the Season 5 trailer below.
