Record Store Day

When: Sat., April 17 2010
Price: Free
This weekend, hundreds of independent record stores across the country partner up for the third annual Record Store Day. These shops are not owned by corporations. They maintain complete control over their stock, store policies, promotions, and in-store gigs. As indies, they’re all in the same big boat. The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived as a “celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.” Special vinyl and CD releases and promotional products are made exclusively for the day. Monster Music celebrates the event with live in-store performances from Gaslight Street, Will Hoge, Matt Hires, Tantric, Ryan Bonner & The Dearly Beloved, White Rhino, Lindsay Holler, Leslie, M-Tank, Flood Empty Lakes, Quasiphonics, and Unjust. Owner Galen Hudson and his crew have new releases and Record Store Day exclusives. Get that stylus ready. —T. Ballard Lesemann
