Record Store Day coming up

Merry Rex-mas: events set for Sat. April 17

Vinyl junkies and audiophiles are all abuzz. Record Store Day is right around the corner, and there's plenty to get excited about. Every third weekend in April, independent stores around the globe have celebrated the holiday since its creation in 2008.

Local shops aren't missing out on the fun. At 52.5 Records, you might as well call it Christmas. There will be an in-store performance from Company (a.k.a. Co.), who recently signed to Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell's label Brown Records. An art show with work based on, or inspired by, a song lyric will also go down in the store. The shop will be giving away plenty of posters, stickers, and 7-inch singles all day.

Monster Movies & Music will also be celebrating with live in-store performances from Gaslight Street, Will Hoge, Ryan Bonner & The Dearly Beloved, White Rhino, Lindsay Holler, Leslie, Flood Empty Lakes, and Unjust. They'll have new releases and Record Store Day exclusives, so don't miss out. Record Store Day is free and everyone's invited.

Soundwave Records & Comics — the only indie record store in Summerville (2139-B N. Main St., 843-821-8810) — will offer a variety of freebies, exclusive items for sale, a 20 percent-off store-wide sale as a bonus to customers, and a huge cookout in the parking lot.

It's a day to put aside our digital differences and show local and independent music some love. See for more.
