Re: “Jenny Sanford settles in on Sullivan's after scandal

Mrs. Sanford put it so well in her expression of women were made for sacrifice. I believe she is referring to the unconditional love we extend to our children. We are their caretakers and role models. Unconditional love also applies to oneself. Not playing the long suffering, sacrificial lamb, or staying in fear or some other agenda, she is sending a profound message to her boys. By her strength and self-respect, she is an example to them of their future selection and treatment of the women they choose to be in their lives. Right and wrong are important messages too, but this recent trend towards narcissism and betrayal needs to change. Her example to her boys, is that women and marriage are not merely for the comforts of men, but it is a true partnership which calls for respect, honesty, forethought and should be treasured. The "good wife" in my mind, is one who remains true to herself and her values, and sets an example to her children of self-respect and decency. Sure, she can be an example of forgiveness as well, but she does not have to remain in the marriage to do so.
