Not all bathroom Instagrammers are selfie-obsessed. Some just appreciate a good toilet. Charleston's very own @chsbathrooms (name withheld to protect his anonymity) silently came onto the Instagram scene earlier this year, armed with his phone and a small army of "Pooper Scooper" minions who let him know of photo worthy bathrooms, and has posted over 100 Charleston area WCs since. We talked with "Your number one source for all the number two happenings in and around the Lowcountry."

City Paper: What spawned the whole Instagram account?

@ChsBathrooms: Yeah it's a little bit of boredom a little bit of probably too many beers. I was thinking about it today, like I guess I was at Wiki Wiki and they had that lemur-like wallpaper and I was like "That's pretty sick" and I took a picture of it. And then I guess I was sitting at the bar and I was like "you know bathrooms don't get enough due." Everybody's got a food account or a beer account and they churn out content and it's you know it's kind of a parody, but once I started doing it, they're all so different. And some of them are representative of the restaurant, some of them are just bathrooms.

CP: So how do you search them out? Do you just happen upon them and take pictures? I know you have your elves out there called pooper scoopers, who point you to some.

@ChsBathrooms: It was definitely like a little bit of both. I'm a food and bev guy, I go out a lot, so when I'm out, it's like "Oh I don't have this one" and then it kind of turned into, "If I'm going out for a beer, maybe I'll try a new spot because I haven't gotten that bathroom yet." And I guess I do have tons of pooper scoopers. Some friends I have, like random people on Instagram that don't know who I am, I go to their bar and they send me pictures. It's kind of funny in that regard, keeping it fairly anonymous.

CP: What are some of your favorites so far?

@ChsBathrooms: I like all the dive bars. I think that they're cool. Local 616 has a really good one, it's a must. It's got an art installation piece. I do like all of Brooks Reitz's bathrooms, concepts carried into the bathroom get extra points for sure.
