Lawyer and reality-TV courtroom judge Akim "Extreme Akim" Anastopoulo (check out Eye For an Eye) has apparently joined forces with local musician/agent Kingh Charles to create a new Charleston-based hip-hop record label called King Chuck Records. A local social worker who wanted to promote activities for at-risk youth approached Anastopoulo with the idea: "Every community should have the opportunity to express itself," thge lawyer said in a written press release. The 20-song debut release is a compilation of "Southern rap, reggae-ton, and club dance" titled South, due on Tues. Feb. 27. Featured rappers include Dubb Slimm, Choppa Loc, Donn Rugarlottie, Ebony Nelson, Contessa, Freezy, Sameria, C-flick, Y-Me, M Carr, and Laneco. TONIK: ANNIVERSARY

Downtown dance club and lounge Tonik celebrates their first anniversary in business this weekend with two classy gigs -- the newly-formed '80s/'90s party-rock band Play List (featuring former members of Weird Science) on Fri. Feb. 23 and legendary beach music/R&B act The Tams (known for such soulful hits as "What Kind of Fool" and "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy") on Sat. Feb. 24. "There is no better way to say thank you to the Lowcountry for supporting our shows over the last year than to bring in two incredible headlining acts," says the venue's Lawson Roberts, of Cellar Entertainment. Doors open at 9 p.m. with show time around 10 p.m. for both events. Tickets are $5 for Friday and $15 ($10 adv.) for Saturday and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 853-8406.

FRIENDLY THURSDAY

Local singer/guitarist Ryan Carducci (of Lowercase Thieves) hosts another edition of the monthly series "Thursdays with Friends" on Thurs. Feb. 22 at the Map Room. The "songwriters in the round" setting will feature guest guitarists Arleigh Hertzler (of The Defilers) and Cullen Bainey (of Claire Danes, GNR Lies) in what Carducci describes as a beery "last man standing" two-setter.
