The Village Tavern scored big points by securing raucous Seattle rockers The Supersuckers for an upcoming two-night stint. They're out on the road supporting a live album titled Instant Live: Cafe Du Nord and a studio EP titled Paid — both released on the Mid-Fi label. They perform at the club on Mon. Sept. 4 and Tues. WALK, DON'T RUN

N.Y. underground rock act The Walkmen arrive in Charleston for a show at the Music Farm on Fri. Aug. 18 in support of a new album titled A Hundred Miles Off. They also have a forthcoming release — a complete song-by-song cover of Harry Nilsson's 1974 record Pussy Cats. Joy Ride are a newly-formed six-piece '80s-rock cover band featuring former members of The Foxy Mondays and Sold Out (London Weidberg, Jeff Calafiore, Lance Gatch, Miles Bryant, Lindsay Jackson, and guests). This week, the band is set to play at the Wild Wing Café in N. Charleston on Sat. Aug. 12 and at the City Bar on Mon. Aug. 14. —TBL

Ex-local artist/musician Kevin Taylor returns from San Francisco for a two-week stint in Charleston, where he'll play a number of shows with his seemingly innumerable and wildly divergent groups, including La Calle, White Boy Crazy, Matter, and FLK. This week, catch laid-back instrumental avant-jazz group La Calle on Fri. Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at Five Loaves Cafe on Cannon Street and on Sun. Aug. 13 at 10 p.m. at Lite Affair on Calhoun Street, or get ready to be aurally assaulted as he reunites with his comrades in humorous hip-hop collective White Boy Crazy on Fri.
