The curmudgeonly, pork-pie-hatted American musical legend Tom Waits is actually headed to the Carolinas during a rare tour that will make its way through the South and Midwest! BIG SHOW: CAROLINIAN FEST
The inaugural ChazzFest: The Charleston Music & Heritage Festival — an all-day music event set for Sat. Sept. 16 at the Family Circle Tennis Center — will feature live performances from local and national acts on four stages. The impressive lineup includes soul vocal legend Al Green, blues guitarist Buddy Guy, sax man Karl Denson, New Orleans brass band The Soul Rebels, Ga.-based rock quintet The Drive-By Truckers, mandolinist Sam Bush, New Orleans keyboardist Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, beach music legends The Drifters and The Catalinas, Carolina blues singer Drink Small, gospel/Gullah ensemble The Plantation Singers, local vocalist Cary Ann Hearst, local jazz/improv combo Gradual Lean, local trio Leslie, and Columbia-based songwriter Danielle Howle. In a press event staged at Marion Square on Wed. July 19, festival organizers announced that Digital Lifestyle Outfiters, a leading producer of iPod accessories, will be the "presenting sponsor" (see www.dlo.com).
