ON THE MAP

Newly-opened neighborhood pub The Map Room is up and rolling in West Ashley. In addition to the impressive full menu and draft beer list, the place is booking live bands to play three to four nights a week. So far, it looks like a mix of blues bands, rock cover groups, and acoustic acts. Contact booking guy Adam Davidson via e-mail at charlestonmaproom@gmail.com for info. --TBL

FULKS MAKES A STOP

Chicago singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks visits the Carolinas in support of a new one entitled Georgia Hard, a CD that would seem perfectly at home in a setting like the Grand Ole Opry. Although Fulks has always had a strong country bent to his music, Georgia Hard is his most purely country album to date, with a set of original songs that are strongly rooted in 1960s and '70s country. Fulks performs on Sat. Dec. 3 at the newly-refurbished Train Depot in Myrtle Beach. --Alan Sculley

WHAT KEY?

Charleston groove lab scientists The Key of Q have a special "comeback" performance scheduled for Fri. Dec. 9 at the Pour House showcasing a tight set of new material and newly-added keyboardist Justin Aubuchon (formerly of The Family Jules) and new drummer Donald "Coop" Dozier. The group recently played a series of "send-off" gigs with drummer Ry Hudnall, who said his good-byes to the local scene in early October before moving to San Diego. They say to expect "deep jazz grooves with transcendental funk and hip-hop beats" on the stage. Look for the Q on Sat. Dec. 17 at Johnson's Pub downtown with DJ Kurfu as well, and visit www.thekeyofq.com for more info. --TBL
