Preservation Society hires new director

Evan R. Thompson steps up

Robert Gurley is stepping down from his position as acting executive director of the Preservation Society of Charleston and passing the torch to Evan R. Thompson. Like the previous director, Cynthia Jenkins, Thompson used to be a director at the Historic Beaufort Foundation. As the Society’s director, Thompson will use his five years of experience from his tenure in Beaufort to revitalize the preservation community in Charleston. In Beaufort, Thompson helped manage a $600,000 grant project for Save America’s Treasures, a five-year project that was completed in 2009. Thompson received a degree from the University of Texas School of Law as well as a B.A. in history from the University of Richmond.
