Even though the Great Depression was at its peak during the 1930s, folks didn’t let the hard times stop them from having a good time. The Preservation Society of Charleston is kicking it 1930s-style with their upcoming Preservation Party. The party will have an open bar and Lowcountry food from Tristan, Ho-M, Poogan’s Porch, and Big House Bakery Café. There will also be a silent auction and live music by The Momentum. This is the third annual Preservation Party and the second decade they’ve celebrated. Last year, the Preservation Society focused on the 1920s, since that’s when they were founded. “Every year, the Preservation Party will be a different decade, and we’re really excited,” says Katherine Ferguson, Preservation Society’s manager of marketing and communications. “The decades will go up until our 100th Anniversary bash in 2020.” For this year’s party, they’ve chosen the Kress Building architecture from that era as the inspiration for the evening. We’re thinking of donning a Ginger Rogers getup.
