Presents from Punks

When: Sat., Dec. 18, 8-10:30 p.m. 2010

My handy-dandy Apple dictionary defines “punk” as “a worthless person.” For real. That’s the first definition. Harsh much? Obviously, the corporation has never heard of Presents From Punks, a Toys for Tots benefit that raises money by selling art. Jonathan Stout, one of the event’s organizers (and a CP contributing photographer), says they host the event because they think people deserve to have a decent Christmas. “This year we have gotten a hold of the local Toys for Toys, so that all the donations we make this year will stay in the community and not be shipped out all over the country,” he says. You can expect to see works for sale (for $50 or less) by Lisa Shimko, Proton, Meta, Tim Showers, Chad Haselden, Robert Donovan, Chuck Keppler, SHT!, and Stout (otherwise known as BadJon) himself. They’re also trying to get some special pieces from out-of-town artists that would be offered up in a silent auction. At 10:30 p.m., the Shaniqua Brown will perform, and DJ Rocky Horror will spin tunes until 2 a.m. “I know a lot of people have fallen on hard times as of late, so it will be good to give as much as we can,” Stout says. “We aren’t in this to make any type of money, just trying to give back with whatever we can make from the show.” —Susan Cohen
