Poe: The Conquerer Worm

When: Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 4-6 2010
theatreverv.org
Exploring the mystery, madness, and macabre of Edgar Allan Poe’s tales, Theatre /verv/ will present its original theatrical work Poe: The Conqueror Worm. The performance couldn’t have come at a better time, the gothic tales of Poe are a perfect fit for the Halloween season. The work takes literary and theatrical fans on a terrifying tour of Poe’s writings, including “Shadow: a Parable,” “Silence: a Fable,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Premature Burial,” “Spirits of the Dead,” “Alone,” “The Sleeper,” “The Lake,” and, of course, “The Conqueror Worm.” The play was co-created and is co-directed by Mark Gorman and JC Conway. The pair hopes their work maintains Poe’s style and breathes a new sense of life into the tales by interweaving poetry and prose into a gothic stage performance. —Dustin J. Pitts
