Photos From This Week's Social Scene

On Friday night I swung by Tonik on King Street, where the Comedy Zone has found a new home to bring national touring comedians to the local scene. An excited crowd showed up for a good laugh. The most anticipated event of the weekend was definitely the City Paper’s own Patrick Sharbaugh’s going-away roast at Theatre 99. It was hilarious and a grand farewell that a guy like Patrick deserved. After that, I went to Home Team BBQ in West Ashley to see some friends and watch Nathan Stevenson play some amazing originals and covers. I’ve been watching Nathan for years, and his local blues, jazz, and rock vibe is a big crowd-pleaser. If you weren’t at the beach on Saturday, you missed out. It was the first weekend in a while that the sun was out and the tourists were gone. That night, I went to Voodoo in West Ashley for Poe Studio’s Runway Show. It was very crowded, so I left right after the show. On Sunday, I mellowed out at Kudu over a chai and listened to the chill music of Jordan Gravel and Ben Wells. It wasn’t the most exciting week by any means, but in August, Charleston is what you make of it.
