Re: “Sip Tap Room

To help with the throttling of "Matt Gallo", he was created on May 18th and managed to have lunch at both locations on that same day (look it up, it's hilarious).

I've been there twice, and I liked the selection and the bar service was fine. It's on James Island (I've lived here for seventeen years), and I applaud a place when it takes a real crack at it. I can't speak to anything but the list and the aforementioned bar service, but if there's Ballast Point on tap, and Green Flash, Stone, two Terrapins and two Founders in bottle form--and these are all IPAs.

But these are also grocery store beers, and I have a hard time paying six bucks for a ubiquitous Goose Island or a Sweetwater IPA, four times what I pay at the Teeter. I'm certainly not paying for the sweet vistas of asphalt and the muted silhouettes of an electrical substation and a Money Man Pawn, and if I'm reading some of these reviews right, and a possible response to this review might be "if you don't like it, stay home", be careful..I have a screened-in porch, a 60" TV, and a $14 growler of Jade. More later when I try the food.

P.S. "lovesdogs6957" was created on May 17th and has one review to date...

Re: “Charleston-area oyster season closes two days after it began

If you read the article, it's apparent that the "out of business" thought or "closed down" is temporary. Calm down, people.

Re: “The Last Gasp of the Lost Cause and the McConnell-CofC controversy

Not being a Southern boy does not disqualify you from pointing out the obvious. Unless part of being a Southern boy is lacking self-awareness and critical thinking skills, that sort of criticism should be processed, and, if need be, corrected. Simple knee-jerk reactions don't help with intelligent discourse. Unless...

Re: “The McConnell Question

"Many need to grow up and learn to work within the system. " That's a crock. It's people fighting for their opinion and change. Pretty sure that's what our country was built upon, might want to look into that.

Re: “The McConnell Question

You may doubt very seriously that a single student, faculty member, or staff member will consider leaving CofC because of McConnell's appointment, but I can assure you many have considered it. Some will act upon it. Just because you don't think that it will happen doesn't make your point of view correct.

Isn't one of the duties of the president of the college or university to aid in growing the endowment of the institution? It'll be tougher to do that if there's someone sitting in that chair that makes people think twice about giving.

"Grow up and work within the system"?? So what conservatives say goes? No, that's not how it works. I agree it is difficult to actually get anything changed in a very conservative state, but it won't keep people who have differing views from trying to change it. "Work within the parameters"? A ridiculous statement. That's a bastardization of a Caddyshack line, not an acceptable argument. "The world is not fair"? That's what one says to a four-year-old begging for ice cream, not free-thinking adults who don't agree with the status quo.

Conservatives may think that this is much ado about nothing, but that's because they're too used to getting what they want and bitching about other people dissenting. I offer that everyone has the ability, nay, the duty to dissent if their cause is just...oh, wait..that's what the whole philosophy of the United States was founded upon.
