Phone: (843) 795-1110
Price: $35/adults, $15/children advance, $40/adults, $20/children at door
It’s hard to believe that oyster season will be over in a month. For animal lovers, the best oyster roast is the one Pet Helpers throws each year. The local shelter does crucial work for the animal community including rescue, adoption, low-cost spays and neuters, and maintaining a pet food bank. “All the proceeds from this event will support our life-saving mission,” says director of philanthropy Leigh Handal. “Some of our programs are Libby’s Library, which helps children who are reluctant to read; Healing Species, a program that teaches children to recognize abuse and bullying; and Kind News, a curriculum guide for teachers on the humane treatment of animals.” This is a pet-friendly event, so feel free to bring all your friends, both human and animal. Local oysters from Lowcountry Fatboy’s Cooking are all-you-can-eat, and there will be a bar with beer and wine options (drink tickets are included in the admission price). Oyster-phobes can gorge themselves on Lowcountry boil, chili, and hot dogs. There will also be a silent auction featuring fashion accessories, art, and pet goodies, as well as live music by Blue Spartina and animal lover Eddie Bush. —Davin Turkewitz SATURDAY
