For the love of art

The documentary, Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict, is centered around Peggy Guggenheim, the niece of art collector and museum founder Solomon R. Guggenheim, and her love of modern art. Director Lisa Immordino Vreeland tells the story of how Peggy Guggenheim became critical to the breakout of modern art. Armed with her ambition, Peggy broke away from traditional institutions to create an art empire. Art Addict was nominated for a Gold Hugo, the grand prize at the Chicago International Film Festival, as well as the best documentary at the Stockholm Film Festival. It delves into wealth, the arts, affairs, tragedy, and Peggy’s unbreakable ambition and passion for modern art. The film includes interviews from Robert De Niro and Simon De Pury (often referred to as the Mick Jagger of art). Fun fact: The Guggenheim family once owned huge patches of land in the Lowcountry, including all of Daniel Island and Cainhoy Plantation. Check out Solomon’s collection on display at the Gibbes later this fall.
