UPDATE: The lunch has changed to a wine tasting for $10. James Beard-winner Paul Grieco grew up in the restaurant business. His parents owned Toronto’s La Scala restaurant so he knew the long hours and hard work that were required to keep an eatery open. But somehow, that didn’t dissuade him from going into the industry — although he chose to focus on wine after a two-month trip to Italy. Now, he brings the 2014 Riesling & Co. Road Trip to Charleston along with Stuart Pigott, a British author and wine critic who lives in Berlin. The three-course luncheon features six wines: 2011 Fürst Tradition pinot noir, 2012 Robert Weil Riesling Trocken, 2013 Wittmann Riesling QbA Trocken, 2012 Peter Jakob-Kühn Riesling Quarzit, 2011 Meierer Riesling Kabinett, and G&M Machmer Gerwürztraminer Spatlese. Chef Andy Henderson will create his menu around the wine for the paired lunch.
