Join fiber artist Jocelyn Chateauvert and media artist Thomas Sweeney for the opening of an intriguing two-person art show, Paper & Paint, this Thursday at Jericho Arts. Chateauvert’s pieces are created mostly with paper that she makes by hand and are combined with various fibers and different light techniques. Her work has been celebrated by the S.C. Arts Commission and the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery. Chateauvert will work in tandem with architect and artist Thomas Sweeney, who has been revered for his design work on familiar Charleston locales such as The Alley, Burwell’s, and the Tattooed Moose. Sweeney says that his work for this show will be inspired by geometric shapes, icons, and an interest in the mystery of shipping containers and dumpsters. “Unlike many traditional galleries, we encourage artists who show here to take risks, try out new approaches and mediums, and to have creative control over their display. It makes for an engaging, thought-provoking experience,” say founder and CEO of Jericho Inc., Josh Silverman.
