Re: “Rally for Charleston Birth Place today at 4:30

Hospitals are for treating illness. Pregnancy is not an illness. Plus, the numbers are in favor of the type of low intervention birth that Birth centers provide. In countries where midwife care is the majority, maternal and fetal outcomes are better. Tell me, why if our expensive model of care is better than better than that of the industrialized nations do we have some of the worst outcomes?

Re: “S.C. natural birth centers could face closure by state regulators

Dear DHEC,
Would you close MUSC, Roper St Francis and Trident for one of them losing a baby during a birthing complication? Does doing so sound insane? It sounds insane to me.
Punishing all birth centers for one wrong incident at one location when hospitals have them happen far more frequently is absurd, stupid, ignorant, idiotic and a few other words that I'm holding back.
I see the birth stories of many moms at hospitals. I saw one with a "long" labor of 16 hours end up with a cesarean. I see women forced into getting unnecessary cuts, medications, and sugar water and formula being pushed on their babies. They are laughed at for having birth plans that desire a natural birth, as if an epidural is the only option (you should google twilight birth, they did the same thing to women with that). They dont let women move around during labor because then they may have to walk an extra 10 feet or bend over a bit more. Oh yah, and I have to pay more for the impatience and bad attitude.
These are things I didnt have to worry about at Charleston Birth Place.
Taking away my choice as a consumer because of who knows what that is mostly unfounded is a mistake. Please dont reduce our safe options because you think you know whats better for us poor women (oh, and our respective mates, should we have them). We are doing what our bodies were made to do.
Thank you,
Concerned mother
