Palmetto Pump and USA Climbing Competition

When: Sat., March 16 2013
Phone: (843) 406-2003
Price: $45, $40/before March 1
Lowcountry climbing enthusiasts would have it pretty rough without the climbing walls at Coastal Climbing, Half-Moon Outfitters, and James Island County Park. This weekend local climbers will have even more to thank those organizations for, as Half-Moon and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Departments are partnering to host the Palmetto Pump Climbing Competition. Climbers will compete on the wall at James Island County Park, which is the tallest outdoor climbing facility in the Lowcountry — it measures more than 50 feet tall and offers more than 4,500 square feet of climbing space. This nationally sanctioned USA Climbing event may sound intense, but it’s perfect for climbers of all ages and skill levels. No competition experience is necessary to participate, and it is free to watch. The park is expecting at least 60 climbers to compete. “We encourage people to come out and watch,” says Sarah Reynolds, Charleston County Parks publicity coordinator. “It’s going to be fun, and there are door prizes for the climbers who win.”
