Oscar Gala: Hollywood Heroes

When: Thu., Feb. 18, 6:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $200

Frankly, very few, if any Charlestonians will ever make it to the Oscars. It’s hard to be exceptionally talented enough at acting or directing or writing or costume designing or sound editing to make it to that big Hollywood night. Luckily, the Charleston Ballet Theatre is again giving the city the next best thing — and you won’t even have to miss the real show to attend.

This year’s Oscar Gala at the American Theater features ballet performances inspired by some of the year’s biggest films, like Avatar, Precious, Up, Sherlock Holmes, and Nine. Get dressed up in your snazziest digs (black tie for men, red dresses for women) to strut the red carpet in style — the paparazzi will be in attendance waiting to snap your picture and maybe even ask a few questions before you get to your seat.

You can bid on star-worthy items in the silent auction. There will also be a martini bar and food provided by Fish — two things that even the hottest celebrities don’t get during their awards show. The night ends with a hilarious wrap-up by the The Have Nots.

“We go to great lengths to make our guests feel pampered as if each and every one of them is a celebrity,” Kyle Barnette, CBT’s administrative director, says. Finally, someone who understands our worth. —Susan Cohen
