There are many important smells associated with fall. Not apples or pumpkins or anything else that you put in a pie — we’re thinking more of fresh-cooked bratwurst, and the most magical scent of all: beer. It’s the kind of stuff that’ll fill the air on Daniel Island when Charleston Oktoberfest returns to Blackbaud Stadium. Besides all the German food and, yes, beer, local teams will be participating in the Bavarian Challenge, competing in tug-of-wars and barrel races. The kids will be too busy having fun with the jump castle and other activities to count down the years they have left until they turn 21 and can really enjoy the festival. And, of course, there’s the requisite oompah music, this year coming from the Roger Gootman Sauerkraut Band. If you’re not too busy soaking up some suds, watch the Cornhole Classic, which will also be taking place at the stadium.
