Re: “Dorchester County Council rejects health care resolution

chas-native, Walter Reed is DOD, not VA. Seems your masters is really workin out there. When I talked with people at Reed, the general outcome was "youll get em after were done with em", and that is nearly a quote. As far as a war, well, everything gets thrown into the mix in terms of govt. I suppose your drinking water is crap too. And the garbage never gets picked up. As a scientist, I would expect you to read data and not just go off gut and personal testomony.....Im sure you know the biases that are inherent. As I said before, good luck sorting yourself out.

Re: “Dorchester County Council rejects health care resolution

chas-native, I worked some time for the Veterans Health Administration, trying to answer a question similiar to yours. After looking at quality of life, level of health and economic costs, veterans who recieve care at the VA vs. outside the VA fare better, health is maintained and costs are lower. Funnily enough, the screw-ups you fondly seek are not in the care-providing areas, rather the politically appointed chiefs who run these operations greasing the palms of politico's, and beyond that, are appointed by the very people we elect. Seems you distance yourself from your act of voting someone in office, to their contributions to this system that you beat up ever instance you can. The problem is with the politics, not with the job govt does. Politics is dictated by you, me and anyone else who has their hand in living. Im going to guess you support the Iraq war. Who exactly is fighting that? Did you think that was a good idea? Would you care to assess the costs of that compared to healthcare? Good luck sorting yourself out.

Wow. Seeing debate like this really amazes me. The issue in this case wasnt so much healthcare, as the attitude of simpleton politics of pandering. As someone who worked in ERs for some time and now works in the corporate side (pharma), there is never an easy answer. Though, for those who are more fundementally repubician than thoughtful, Id invite you to look at a patient just about to die from something completely avoidable, and tell him "Im sorry, you didnt have a job, goodnight". Compassion isnt conditional....unless of course youre mindless
