New York Times sending readers to Charleston

Paper offers Lowcountry as "off-season" getaway

In a travel feature on off-season getaways, The New York Times highlights Charleston.

Between Barbados and Greece, the paper talks up Charleston's welcome climate and historic downtown. The Dock Street Theater and the Spoleto Festival also get some love, as well as the City Market restoration. Buzzworthy new businesses get some attention, including The Restoration on King, Amen Street Fish and Raw Bar, and 17 North.

"Low humidity, few crowds and flowers in full bloom are ideal conditions for exploring Charleston’s many parks and nearby plantations," writes Lionel Beehner.
