London’s National Theatre started National Theatre Live (NTL) in 2009 as a way of sharing live productions with people all over the globe. NTL films a live production with cameras carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to give audiences an optimal viewing experience, and venues can show the broadcasts live, as their time zone allows, or at a later date. 34 West has shown National Theatre Live shows before, with last year’s screening of Hamlet selling out two nights in a row. This year’s screenings started earlier this month and the next one, A View From the Bridge, will be held on Sept. 18-19. A View From the Bridge is Arthur Miller’s two-act play, which was first performed in 1956 in London’s West End. The play, set in 1950s Brooklyn, is about Eddie, a man who has an unhealthy obsession with his wife’s niece, Catherine. Theater geeks can look forward to five more screenings at 34 West this year including Deep Blue Sea, Frankenstein, Threepenny Opera, Hamlet, and War Horse. —Connelly Hardaway
