Re: “How integration led to the decline of black-owned businesses

It is not integration that is responsible for the breakdown of black America. Please read the legitimate stats of black America prior to the welfare state. The American Thinker posted a piece a few years back that included pre and post welfare stats. How well-meaning government programs decimated black America is shocking, from business ownership to two-parent families to education. Our politicians have enslaved the strong people it once freed, making them dependent on government while providing incentives to destroy the family unit (or simply not create it). Black enterprise, education and families pre 1960 (& post slavery) were flourishing. In an attempt to create equality (an attempt by misguided politicians), great harm was done. And it continues today. The poor black youth I have taught for 16 years are always shocked to see pictures of flourishing black businesses, towns, etc. They were born into the welfare state with family role models who were as well. It is unfortunate, but it will continue as long as the men and women we put into office embrace a victim mentality. One can acknowledge the ills and huge effects of slavery without creating legislation and programs that perpetuate the problems. But that is what we continue to do, enslaving generation after generation to lifelong poverty.
