An uplifting romantic comedy based on the Book of Ruth. Set in the 1950s, a young Minnesota widow falls into dire straits and enlists the help of a bashful businessman in order to survive. Romance blossoms but both will have to sacrifice everything they have in order to save one another. Part of Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

Modernizing the Bible
34West Theater Company co-founders Jeff Querin and Stephen W. Baldwin discovered a new way to explore the Bible: by rewriting their favorite stories into contemporary plays. Audiences in the company's home states of Ohio and New York have loved their retellings, and the duo has responded to the demand for more with its latest piece My Name Is Ruth, an updated version of the Old Testament's Book of Ruth.

Spreading a hopeful message
In their mission statement, 34West declares that they aspire to "enrich lives through theater." My Name Is Ruth is no exception. Querin says, "Our greatest hope is that [audiences] leave a little more encouraged, a little more inspired than when they arrived, so that they may be able to live their lives fuller."

Celebrating double digits
34West, which celebrated its tenth birthday this year, is thrilled to visit Charleston.
