Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed over 600 works over the course of his short life. From concert to chamber music. Impressive. And to honor the be-wigged big wig, Chamber Music Charleston (CMC) celebrates with the sixth annual Mozart in the South Festival. But this is no stuffy affair. First off, there’s Rock and Rondo in which the Chamber will ditch their formal duds for jeans and play a blend of Michael Jackson and Queen with some Mozart and Beethoven thrown in. Then there’s the Chamber Music performance in the sanctuary of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul. At the show, Chamber Music Charleston 2, a chamber music mentoring program for student musicians, will play movements from Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 4. Capping off the festival, the ever-popular Little Mozart Circus, a free event for the family with performances from Charleston County School of the Arts Orchestra, Lowcountry American String Orchestra, Hungry Monk Bluegrass, Leonard’s Band, and Hungry Monk Fiddlers. Bonus: look for the instrument petting zoo.
