It totally makes sense that Robert Downey Jr. would play the title character in the latest Sherlock Holmes film. He’s got a lot in common with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary character. No, Downey doesn’t solve crimes or wear funny hat-cape combos or live in Victorian-era London. But he did do a lot of drugs. And so did Sherlock Holmes. So it’s really a natural role for the reformed addict. That being said, this weekend’s Movies in Marion Square isn’t necessarily 100 percent family-friendly. Keep in mind that Sherlock Holmes is rated PG-13, so you might want to leave the younger kids at home. But if you are deep into your teen years or older, feel free to head downtown and enjoy the free film, plus food from D’Allesandro’s Pizza, Taco Spot, Hello My Name is BBQ, Ol’ South Hot Dogs, Black Bean Company, and T&T’s Kettle Korn. And this week’s organization is Water Missions International, who helps ensure that developing countries and disaster areas have clean drinking water; most recently, they sent assistance to Japan.
