Re: “Ron Paul's government guillotine

To I. P. Yuenling,

War with Iran will destroy this country. If any other candidate would abstain from invading a nuclear Iran, I would consider them.

First, consider that North Korea, a nation that hates us, is already armed with nuclear weapons. They probably haven't tried anything because they, like all other human beings, enjoy living. As for the suicidal Muslim theocrats, they are smothered by Iran's secular culture, which is the most secular in all of Arabia and Southwest Asia.

Most importantly, if we elect a president who intends to start a war with Iran (literally every other candidate besides Ron Paul, including Obama who is already in favor of sanctions), al Qaeda's funding and recruitment will quadruple with masses of Iranian men attempting to avenge this encroachment on their homeland. We will end up warring for another five to eight years, just like with Iraq.

The Iraq War caused the 2008 recession. With tax cuts and a simultaneous trillion dollar war, our government had to inflate the currency, hence the spike in the price of gas, food, and everything else. Since the rest of the world had run their currencies on our dollar, theirs failed as well. Since a spike in inflation wipes out the savings of the poor and middle class, everyone had to get a second job.

The best case scenario is that an Iranian War will cause another inflation spike, gas will be between $6 and $8 per gallon, a McDonald's meal will cost $10 instead of $6, and everyone will need to get a third or fourth job. The worst case scenario is that Russia and China, Iran's allies among the U.N.'s Nuclear Five, will go to war with us, and we will once again risk a nuclear holocaust.

Every other issue pales in comparison. Iran is not the existential threat. War with Iran is the existential threat, and only President Paul would spare us from that.
