After reinventing itself last year, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra is set to offer its first full season in some time. And they’re making good on their promise to treat us to an exciting array of top-tier soloists and conductors. In that regard, their Masterworks season opener on November 12 is an incredible coup: joining the CSO for Beethoven’s evergreen “Emperor” concerto will be mega-pianist Emanuel Ax, a living legend among American keyboard stars. He routinely performs with the world’s most glamorous orchestras and conductors and collaborates with superstars like wonder-cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violin god Itzhak Perlman. Many of his recordings for Sony Classics have garnered Grammy Awards. It’s safe to say that the CSO has never before performed with a pianist of such immense stature. With Dvorak’s gorgeous Symphony No. 8 also on the playbill and Stuart Malina conducting, you definitely won’t want to miss this one.
