What's old is new

Join local photographer Mary Wessner this Friday evening at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery for the opening reception of her newest exhibition, Thru New Eyes—The World in Black and White. While Wessner’s previous work has largely been in color, this exhibition will focus on black and white photos with abstract subject matters that challenge viewers’ eyes. “I wanted to let people get involved and create their own story with the photographs,” says Wessner. “With something like landscape photography, there’s an obvious subject matter, but with [these new works], the viewer is free to see whatever they want in the image.” Whether it’s smoke burning from an incense stick, or a picture of a tulip about to die, Wessner’s photography challenges the viewer to see ordinary objects in new ways. In addition to her abstract works, there will also be a number of traditional black and white photos on display. Wessner is the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery’s featured artist for July 2016, and her photography will be on display until July 31.
